AIRPLANE

飛行機[HIKŌKI]

There are 97 airports (as of 2020, excluding heliports and non-public airfields) over the island nation of Japan. That’s three times as many as those in Germany that has almost the same land area as Japan. Although airplanes are important transportation in Japan, there are places that cannot be accessed by plane, such as Kyoto, Yamanashi where Mt. Fuji is located, and Gifu with the famous Hida-Takayama area. Nara has no airport either, but Aki, a native of Nara, says proudly, “I like the very fact that it takes at least one or more trains to get to Nara. Inconvenience can be a precious thing in this fast-moving technological world.”
