SUNRISE

日の出(朝日)[HINODE(ASAHI)]

In Japan, a beautiful sunrise can be seen all year round. Watching the first sunrise of the year called “hatsu hinode” to pray for good fortune and/or make a New Year’s resolution is a traditional custom. Climbing up to the observatory on a mountain top to see hatsu-hinode has been my family tradition for 15 years. My son, who was just a little boy back then, will turn 20 soon this year. I wonder how many more years he will come along with us. Each year, past and future, has left and will leave a precious memory even on days when the sun is covered with clouds.
