HOT POT

[NABE]

Hot pot (or one pot) dishes made by cooking meat, fish, tofu, vegetables, and a variety of other ingredients in a large pot. Nabé are favorite winter dishes for many households. They are often cooked at the table over a portable stove and enjoyed by a group of people. There are over 100 types of nabé with varying ingredients and soups, including Western or ethnic foods such as tomatoes, curry, and cheese. Sumo wrestlers are known to eat vast quantities of chanko-nabé every day. When the pot becomes almost empty, it is time to put steamed rice or noodles in the remaining soup to finish up the dish – the most fun part of nabé, so irresistible even for someone like Mary who is on a diet.
