MELON BUN

メロンパン [MELON-PAN]

A type of sweet bun originating in Japan made from an enriched dough covered with a thin layer of crisp cookie dough to have an appearance that resembles a melon. Although they are not traditionally melon flavored, recent versions contain juice or pieces of real melon and/or have a croissant-like appearance, or other diverse features. Aiko, when she was a little girl, used to have a temper tantrum over the nonexistence of real melon in the bun. Today, her daughter is complaining about the same thing. It runs in the family, she guesses.
