SPINY ROBSTER

伊勢海老[ISE-EBI]

Ise-ebi, a popular item in high-class Japanese cuisine, is revered as “the king of ebi” in Japan. The name stemmed from the fact that they are caught in Ise Bay in great numbers. Foreigners often confuse ise-ebi with lobsters, but ise-ebi have no pincers and are different creatures from lobsters. They turn bright red when boiled and are often served on New Year’s Day and other festive occasions just like lobsters are eaten at Christmas in the United States.
