MATSUSHIMA

松島[MATSUSHIMA]

The 260 pine-covered islands of Matsushima Bay in Miyagi Prefecture in northern Japan are collectively considered one of Japan’s three most scenic sights for their beautiful natural landforms created by wave erosion over millennia. Matsushima has earned three stars from Michelin Green Guide Japan and is visited by many international tourists. Most visitors take a ferry to enjoy the most popular close-up view of the islands. Matsushima is beautiful beyond words and has been so for ages. Even legendary haiku poet Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) struggled to describe the beauty he encountered here.
