TRADITIONAL JAPANESE PAPER

和紙[WASHI]

Paper made in the traditional manner, using plant fibers, which makes washi tougher and longer-lasting than ordinary paper made from wood pulp. Characterized by its uniquely warm texture, washi is used in traditional arts like Shodo and Japanese-style paintings, as well as shoji screens and a variety of other purposes. In washi producing regions, there are places where visitors can experience making washi. One day, I washed my jeans with money in the pocket. It did not tear though. Of course, Japanese paper money is made of washi!
