YUFUIN

湯布院[YUFUIN]

One of Japan’s major hot spring towns located in the central part of Oita Prefecture known as the “Prefecture of Onsen.” The town is situated at the foot of Mt. Yufu, a 1558 m-tall mountain known as Bungo-fuji because of its beautiful conical shape resembling Mt. Fuji. It is the second largest hot spiring in Japan (as of 2022) in terms of the number of hot springs and the amount of hot spring water. Yufuin is a popular summer resort and referred by some as “the Karuizawa of Kyushu,” with many attractions besides hot springs, including horse-drawn carriage rides and the mystical views of Yufuin Basin enshrouded with morning fog that occurs from autumn to winter. I got up early to catch this view from the Sagiridai Observatory. Wow, it looks like the whole town is steaming. Amazing... But I can’t stay here too long. I’m getting cold. Time to go back to the hotel and enjoy a morning bath!
