JAPANESE DRUM

和太鼓[WADAIKO]

A traditional drum that has been long cherished in Japan. Taiko comes in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and larger ones make a very deep, reverberating sound. Taiko has been used since ancient times as a ritualistic tool to communicate with deities and is still an essential instrument today in playing hayashi (festival music). Taiko artists and groups have been emerging in recent decades, attracting audiences all over the world. Ritsu, while studying in a library in preparation for a college entrance exam, notices the sound of a distant taiko drumming. “Is this a festival day?” Although he cannot join, he felt cheered up by the drumming.
