ANCIENT ROAD

古道[KODŌ]

Roads used in ancient times that still keep the vestiges of the old roads. Usually, historical sites and the natural environment are also preserved along the kodo, making them nice and refreshing hiking routes. Walking along the world-famous Kumano Kodo, a World Heritage Site, has become a popular activity among international tourists. After three hours of walking on a kodo in silence, I arrived at a mountain peak. My view suddenly widened to reveal an ocean far down below. The pilgrims in old times must have been rewarded by the same glorious view.
