KARAOKÉ

カラオケ[KARAOKE]

A form of entertainment originating in Japan, in which a person sings the vocal line of a song with pre-recorded accompaniment. “Karaoke boxes” can be found everywhere in Japan and typically consist of soundproof compartments where people sing songs mostly as entertainment for parties. You can pick your favorite or nostalgic songs to sing. Until it becomes your turn, you can clap along to liven up the party. Some people show a different face when singing karaoke, such as my boss who normally acts like a debonair gentleman but loves to sing cute songs, or the demure-looking young lady of my department who completely transforms behind the microphone.
