IMPERIAL PALACE

皇居[KŌKYO]

The usual residence of the Emperor and Empress of Japan located in central Japan. It is built on the site of the old Edo Castle, which used to be the residence of the shōgun. It is a large area containing several buildings, including the main palace, where various ceremonies are held, and administrative offices of the Imperial Household Agency. Accessing the inner ground of the Imperial Palace is not allowed, but gardens and some spaces are open for the general public to walk around freely. The 5 km circuit around the palace is extremely popular among runners, as the path is beautifully paved and there are no traffic lights at intersections. Ken decided to do jogging on weekends to lose the extra pounds around his belly. His goal is to become able to make two rounds of the Imperial Palace run non-stop.
