BONSAI

盆栽[BONSAI]

A Japanese art form dating back some 1,000 years that utilizes horticultural techniques to grow a small tree in a special vase. Today, bonsai is cherished as a “living landscape in miniature form” by a growing circle of fans around the world. The Omiya Bonsai Village in Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture, the so-called mecca of bonsai that encompasses the Bonsai Art Museum and nurseries that offer hands-on bonsai experience, is a must-visit for all bonsai lovers. A bonsai created by a truly gifted artist may cost as much as a million dollars. If you don’t know how to appreciate it, I’d recommend looking at it from down below. It may look like a giant ancient tree.
