TEMPURA

天ぷら [TEMPURA]

A typical Japanese dish consisting of seafood and vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Cooked bits of tempura are usually eaten with soy sauce or salt-based dipping sauce. Although their appearance resembles that of fritters, the texture is quite different. The batter of skillfully fried tempura is much thinner and crispier although skill levels and styles vary from chef to chef. “Come on down, kids! It’s dinner time! I made tempura...” I hear no response. They must be busy playing a video game. They’d better hurry. Tempura are best eaten fresh out of the frying pan.
