SWEET RED BEAN BUN

あんぱん[ANPAN]

Bread buns filled with sweet anko (red bean paste) first created in Japan in the late 1800s. In those days, the idea to combine Western food with traditional anko was novel and revolutionary, and a government official, quite impressed with the idea and its deliciousness, presented anpan to the Emperor. In the popular animé series “Let’s Go” Anpanman,” Anpanman, a super popular superhero with an anpan for a head, lets a starving person he encounters eat a part of his head. Japanese kids learn kindness and compassion from Anpanman.
