GINZAN HOT SPRING

銀山温泉[GINZAN ONSEN]

A hot spring town located in Yamagata Prefecture in norther Japan. As the name Ginzan (silver mountain) suggests, the town was home to one of the most productive silver mines in Japan until a few hundred years ago. Following the accidental discovery of hot springs, the town become a popular spa resort. Ginzan Onsen is known for its photogenic townscape. Retro Western-style buildings (hot spiring inns) line the Ginzan River, which is becoming increasingly popular among international tourists as well. Rumor says that Spirited Away, an animated fantasy film by Studio Ghibli, was inspired by this town. At dusk, the inns are lit up by the dim orange light of the gas lamps along the street. Who can resist taking a photo of this mystical scenery? I posted some photos on Twitter and got many likes almost instantly! Ginzan Onsen can make anyone a photographer.
