GREAT SETO BRIDGE

瀬戸大橋[SETO-ŌHASHI]

A series of 10 bridges connecting Honshu and Shikoku opened in 1988. The construction of this long and massive bridge, which was unprecedented at the time, took 9.5 years to complete and was referred to as “the most challenging construction project of the century.” Different types of bridges, such as suspension and truss bridges, are linked together as one, spanning a long distance over the sea and islands – a sight so grand to behold. Looking at the Great Seto Bridge, Ashly from California was reminded of the Golden Gate Bridge. She later found out that the Seto Bridge is nearly five times longer than the one in San Francisco and that it holds the Guinness World Record as the longest highway-railway double-deck system bridge in the world.
