HAILING A CAB / TAXI

タクシーを拾う[TAKUSHĪ-WO-HIRŌ]

In Tokyo and other large cities, you can easily hail a taxi on the street or by calling a taxi company or using a taxi dispatch app. If you are in a hurry, the quicker way is to stand on the side of the main street in the direction you want to go. You can tell if the cab is available by looking at the sign in front of the passenger seat or the rooftop lamp. Wave your hand at an available taxi from the curb. If it does not stop, check where you are standing. It is illegal for cars to stop near an intersection, pedestrian crossing, or bus stop.
