POTTERY

陶芸[TŌGEI]

A Japanese style of making pottery by firing clay in a kiln. Pottery is distinguished from ceramics in that the pottery is created only of clay where a ceramic piece is of clay and other materials such as wood, glass, and glaze. Japanese pottery is a popular souvenir for international tourists. Visitors can experience making pottery in some pottery regions, which were once flooded by tourists who were inspired and excited after seeing the famous scene in the American movie “Ghost” (1990). Whether or not they got amorous behind a pottery wheel is unknown.
