SHAVED ICE

かき氷[KAKIGŌRI]

Japanese summer cannot go without kakigōri, shaved or crushed ice topped with fruit syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and so on. It used to be offered mostly by street vendors at summer festivals, etc., and has now evolved into wide varieties, such as that made of natural spring water, shaved in a particular way to achieve extreme fluffiness, or mixed with chunks of raw fruit. I’ve taken a 1-hour train ride to this specialty café of kakigōri. With the crunching sound of shaved ice, my excitement peaks. Here it comes – shaved ice topped with Mont Blanc cream! Yes, this is what I came here for – looks so good and Instagrammable!
