FOOD STALL

屋台[YATAI]

Small mobile stalls selling mostly food on street in tourist sites and city centers and along the approaches to shrines and temples during festivals. In Hakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, the largest yatai town in Japan, over 100 stalls offer a variety of food from ramen, yakitori, oden, and other typically Japanese items to French and Chinese dishes. Yatai bring back childhood memories of summer festivals, where my friends and I had such fun playing goldfish scooping, eating yakisoba(fried noodles), etc., under a fireworks-filled night sky. Now being a grown-up, I go to yatai on my way home from work to slurp ramen alone. Oh, how I miss those days of innocent merriment.
