RESTAURANT

レストラン[RESUTORAN]

Restaurants in Japan usually require no tips and offer water and oshibori (wet towel) for free, which surprise many international tourists. To many Japanese, the term “restaurant” has a connotation of higher-end Western-style bistro whereas so-called “family restaurants (branches of restaurant chains)” that offer a variety of dishes at relatively low prices are popular across generations. “What’s this little button on the table?” I pressed it to find out. Ding-dong! A server immediately came over to my table to take my order like a genie from a bottle. Wow!
