HOTEL

ホテル[HOTERU]

“Hotels” in Japan usually refer to Western-style accommodation while certain things are uniquely Japanese such as no need to leave a tip for the hotel staff. There are different types of hotels. Business hotels offer basic accommodation at reasonable prices, whereas city hotels typically house restaurants and multi-purpose halls that can be used for banquets, wedding ceremonies, etc. Resort hotels are situated in tourist resorts. I stayed in a business hotel for the first time when I took an entrance exam for a university in Tokyo. That was almost 20 years ago. I remember the small hotel room where I did last-minute studying the night before the exam.
