FERRY

フェリー[FUERĪ]

A commercial vessel that carries passengers and cargo over a fixed route on a regular schedule. Ferries are the most relied upon means of transport to and from remote islands that abound in Japan. A luxury ferry with expensive facilities resembling those of high-end ryokan has recently been introduced and is drawing a lot of attention. It takes only 1 hour and 40 minutes to travel from Tokyo to Hokkaido by plane whereas it takes more than 17 hours by ferry. “What’s wrong about spending the time doing nothing but gazing at the sea?” wonders Aki, while purchasing a business-class air ticket to Hokkaido.
