BEACH

ビーチ[BĪCHI]

Beautiful beaches are everywhere in Japan, an island country surrounded by sea. Summer beaches are filled with people who come to enjoy sea bathing. In Japan, umi-biraki (beach opening ceremony) is held every year (typically in July but in March in Okinawa, etc.) to mark the beginning of the swimming season at beaches. In the ceremony, people gather to pray for prevention of sea accidents and prosperous business. Japanese people feel the beginning of summer when they see a TV news report of umi-biraki and kids rushing to the sea as soon as the ceremony is declared closed.
