TOYOSU MARKET

豊洲市場[TOYOSU-SHIJŌ]

One of the world’s largest wholesale markets located in Tokyo for trading seafood, vegetables, and fruits. It opened in 2018 as a replacement to the aged Tsukiji Fish market, which was also a popular tourist site. Visitors can enjoy walking around the market, eating fresh seafood at sushi restaurants, and observing the auction that starts at 5:30 in the morning with a bell clanging over rows of bluefin tuna laid on the floor. The peculiar way the auctioneers chant prices sounds different to different people. Ken thinks it sounds like a Buddhist sutra whereas for Bob it feels more like high-speed rap music.
