ASAKUSA

浅草[ASAKUSA]

A traditional temple town of Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, extremely popular among international tourists. The entrance gate called Kaminarimon is especially famous for its large red lantern. Dozens of stores selling traditional souvenirs and sweets line up along Nakamise-dori, a lively shopping street that runs from Kaminarimon to Senso-ji. “What is that?” asks Bob to a rickshaw driver. “That is Kaminarimon. Its official name is Fujin-Raijin Mon (wind god and thunder god gate).” “The lantern weights 700 kg.” The rickshaw driver is an excellent tour guide, too. He knows everything about Asakusa.
